Numerology - Number Meanings

Birth Path Number

The birth path number, which suggests your overall path in life and place in the world, is based on your complete birth date. It is easy to calculate. Simply add up the digits of your birth data, and keep "reducing" (explained via the example here) to a single digit.

Example:

If your birthday is April 28, 1968, for example, note it as follows:
Birth Month is April, which is the 4th month = 4
Birth Day is 28 = 28
Birth Year is 1968 = 1968.

Add up the digits of all of these numbers:
4+2+8+1+9+6+8 = 38
Further "reduce" this number to a single digit by adding its digits:
3+8 = 11
And then further reduce it, if necessary:
1+1 = 2
The final digit, 2, is the Birth Path Number!

Name Number

Use the birth name--the name given a person at birth--to determine the Name Number (also known as the Expression Number), which reveals the overall personality. To calculate the name number, find the number that corresponds to each letter in the name in the chart below, add the numerals up, and then "reduce" the final number to a single digit, as you did with the birth path number, above.

Example:

Find each letter and its corresponding numeral in the chart above, and then add these digits together:

Reduce by adding the sum's digits together, and then further reduce to come to a single digit, if necessary:
65 = 6+5 = 11
11 = 1+1 = 2
In this example, the Name Number is 2, representing the personality type.

The Meaning of Basic Numbers in Numerology:

Number OneOne is the leader. The number one indicates the ability to stand alone, and is a strong vibration. Ruled by the Sun.
Keywords: independent, creative, original, ambitious, determined, self-assured. If expressed negatively: arrogant, stubborn, impatient, self-centered.
As lovers: Number ones take the lead in love. Love and/or the chase is of utmost importance to these lovers. There can be self-centeredness, however. These lovers are willing to experiment, and they can be quite exciting--they can also require a lot of excitement because they can bore easily.

Master Numbers

In the first example above, in which the calculations for the Birth Path Number were demonstrated, the final number was reduced from an 11 to a 2. In Numerology, there are such things as Master Numbers that are noted, and these are the numbers 11 and 22. Essentially, the number 11 is a 2, but it is considered a higher vibration of the number 2. Similarly, the number 22 is a 4, but it is a higher vibration of the number 4.
Number Eleven
This is the giver. Number Eleven is an innovator with an unmistakable streak of humanitarianism.
Keywords: idealistic, intuitive, considerate, tolerant, accepting, steadfast.  If expressed negatively: too dependent, over-sensitive, manipulative.
As lovers: These lovers are romantic in the idealistic sense of the word. They want to see good in people, and they find it. Elevens are the least selfish lovers, and they are extremely considerate. They won't push you to do anything. They hold onto their partners (and their friends) and they are the masters of compromise. Elevens are tolerant and accepting.
Number Twenty-Two
This is the master builder. Although Number Twenty-twos are idealists and visionaries, they still manage to keep their feet on the ground.

On our general Numerology page, we offered interpretations of the numbers in relation to personality.
On this page, we take a look at the number vibrations as an expression of time. We show you how to calculate the Personal Year Number as well as the monthly cycle numbers in order to understand the vibration of particular years and months. We also discuss the concept of attaching a number to each day, and timing events in harmony with the numbers associated with a particular day.

 Yearly Cycles/The Personal Year Numbers

The Birth Path Number always stays the same. However, numbers are associated with each year following birth, and these are called Personal Year Numbers.
Personal Year Numbers are easy to calculate. To determine the current year's number, simply add the birth day and month to the year in question.

Example

Using the example in the calculation of the Birth Path Number on our Numerology page, in which a person was born on April 28, 1968, to determine the number attached to the current year, 2005, we would simply add the birth month and day to 2005, as follows:
4+2+8+2+0+0+5 = 21 = 3
The Personal Year in this example is 3.
Note that numbers are chronological from year to year. In other words, if this year your Personal Year Number is 3, next year will be 4, the following year will be 5, and so forth.

The Meaning of Personal Year Numbers in Numerology:

Personal Year One:This is a year of action. The seeds you plant now, you will reap later. Others might find you less sociable, as you are busier than ever and you focus on your activities and your needs. Still, you are outgoing and your initiative is stronger than ever. Advice - Stand alone, take action, start fresh, express independence.
Personal Year Two:This is a year of potential companionship. It is a quiet, gentle, and mostly harmonious year that is less active than other years. Instead, you are more responsive to the needs of others. If you are patient and open yourself up in a gentle manner, you will attract both things and people. This is an excellent year in which to build and develop for the future. Advice - be patient, be receptive, enjoy the peace, collect.
Personal Year Three:
This is a year of sociability. It is a friendly time, during which it is especially easy to enjoy life and other people. Focus is on personal freedom, reaching out to others, making new friends, and exploration. You are more enthusiastic and ready for adventure. Personal Year Six:
This is a year of relative contentment. It is a time when love is the easiest to attract, and partnerships formed under this vibration have a better chance for longevity. Personal Year Seven:
This is a year of preparation, chance, and refinement. It is not a time of dramatic changes. These groups of numbers are significant not only if they're present but if they're missing. This chart will show your most important numbers and how they work together to show your unique numerology meaning. But, it will also show areas where you need some concentration, which would be revealed through your missing numbers.
Take your full birthday numbers and slot each of your numbers in where the corresponding Pythagoras numbers are located. There’s a very good possibility you won't have numbers for certain spots. Just leave a space or indicate with another symbol other than a zero.

Now draw arrows horizontally, vertically and diagonally where all three spots have a number as in the example. If you have just two numbers on one of these axis then you'll have some of those qualities. If you possess even one of the three numbers, it indicates a propensity to the positive traits. Look at all the empty spaces. Where "X's" appear indicates areas she lacks the innate positive tendencies. Two numbers diagonally, vertically or horizontally, would have more but not full tendencies for that grouping of numbers. The less numbers the less positive influence.

Numerology reveals the power of your own name
You're about to find out that your name reveals much more than you think. Take your full name, first and last, as it is right now. For people who have changed their names through marriage or whatever, use your present name. But, calculate your given or other names a well. You'll see changes in your strengths and weakness through your different names.

We're affected often dramatically, by others we're closest to. So it makes sense that numerology mean changes with a name change.

To find out your present situation, use your present name. Here’s the table you use to determine the corresponding number that replaces each letter. If you usually go by a derivative of your name, (eg. Nicolas to Nick) use the name you prefer and use. If you go by your middle name, use that. In fact see the difference between names. It may influence you as to which name in numerology means is better for you. Hmmmmmm. It may not be the one you think.

Let’s use our above example with the name Susan Jenkins. Susan's numerology for her name would look like this: 1, 3, 1, 1, 5, 1, 5, 5, 2, 9, 5, 1.

Now when we look at Susan's chart including her name and her birthday, we see that including her name increased the numbers in her already heavier 1>5>9 combination for even greater meaning. Her name confirmed her birthday numbers. But, she gained another sequence of 1>2>3. Her chart is still very masculine. She has only one feminine number and a single unit at that. Through many variations of numerology you can pinpoint different personality tendencies. You’ll start to see a pattern of tendencies that will amaze you. These are some common combinations that will increase incite into yourself or another.

  2. Single digit sum of your first and last name
  3. Single digit sum of your full name and your birthday added together
  4. Single digit sum of the vowels of your first name only

It is also a masculine number and indicates God the creator. This number represents ambition, leadership and strong organizational skills. A "1" is a natural leader. A high percentage of the people I’ve charted have a lot of "1s" in their numerology meanings. Now look how her subordinate numbers soften her heavy "1s", or enhance them in that series by checking the individual numbers from earlier.
Lots of "1s" is not surprising since we are leaving the Age of Pisces, which represents money, power and control. With the new Age of Aquariusgreat spiritual and material changes are predicted to befall the earth as they did when the last Great Cycle changed around 3100 BC. This will affect numerology meanings.

Conclusion:
Numerology is not just fun, you will find out there is a lot of merit to what you discover. If you don't believe the results, chances are your friends and family will let you know that the findings do give a true profile of your traits. 
We have gotten away from the true meaning of mathematics. It is much more than numbers. There are psychological meanings and personalities hidden in those numbers, and Pythagoras saw these traits. The Maya also felt numbers were alive and the universe could be broken down into numbers.

The great cycle change that has occurred recently, is about bringing back the feeling side in the world that was considered unimportant centuries ago. We have never felt complete without this side, and now we are in the evolutionary stage to reclaim it.

Summary for Life Path Numbers from 1 to 9

 
ONES have a strong desire to be # 1.They are independent, self motivated, and hard working. They are critical of themselves and as a result, can be critical of others. When the 1 Life Path has won a personal victory, they radiate with pure joy. Multitasking is something they tend to be very good at, and keeping busy is very important to them. The 1s will not tolerate laziness from the people they spend their time with. Exercise is a must for the 1 Life Path- it helps them to get out their heads and actually relax for a moment, before moving right on to the next project!

TWOS want peace. They make good mediators. They are very loyal, and when they say that they love you,count on it!They welcome companionship and the chance to share their lives with someone special. The flip side is that if they feel threatened or pushed to the wall, they become the terrible 2s. Usually though, they will do everything they can to avoid conflict.

THREES communicate in all areas: You will find them as Writers, radio broadcasters, actors, singers, performers, counselors etc..They are natural comedians, but if they do not use their creative energy, they can feel manic and unhappy. They tend to exaggerate the truth because it makes for a better story! The 3s are known for their trademark smiles, bright eyes and pleasing voices.

FOURS seek security. Home is their haven. They are often intensely cerebral and need to find ways to calm their minds. They should avoid the tendency to overthink everything, otherwise great ideas live and die in their heads, and nothing actually gets done. The 4s like to be organized and to put things back in their "proper place". If their home environment appears sloppy and unkempt , that is a sign that the 4 Life Path person is not doing well.

FIVES seek freedom, fun, adventure. If they do not live the adventure, their lives can become way too dramatic. They are the natural detectives and celebrators of life ( holidays are usually one of their favorite times of the year). 5s have a hard time settling down and have a fear of being trapped or smothered in a relationship. So if you are involved with a 5, give them plenty of space!

SIXES are nurturers. If men, they rescue damsels in distress. If women, they mother the "little boy" in their men. They should manage or run the company. If everything is going smoothly, they must be careful not to ruin it. They tend to put people on pedestals which inevitably topple. They are magnetic, and people are drawn to them. Their moods affect the room.

SEVENS are another cerebral number. They do not want you to know exactly who they are, and need their privacy. If you earn their trust, they will confide in you, but don't bother prying, because it will get you nowhere! They are loners who seek truth and need to have a strong faith base that they can really embrace. If they do not have faith, they may become cynical and some will actually escape through drugs, alcohol, work, geography etc.. They have a love of natural beauty: ocean, green grass, plants, flowers, etc. Being surrounded by nature gives them a strong sense of peace.

EIGHTS do not feel safe unless they have found a way to establish financial security. It is difficult for the 8s to take advice. When they make a choice, they must feel it is their decision, NOT SOMEONE ELSES. As a result, they do tend to learn the hard way. 8s are very honest and by being too blunt, they unintentionally hurt other's feelings. Although they can sometimes appear insensitive, what is going on inside them is the exact opposite. They do feel deeply about everything that goes on in their lives.

NINES are the natural leaders. People often think they are in charge even if they are not. When in a store, people will often assume that they work there and will ask for help! They take care of everyone else, but need to learn to speak up when they need help, love, and hugs. The 9s often feel unloved or abandoned by their mother or father, or they feel completely responsible for them. It's hard for them to let go of the past, and it is something they need to work on in this lifetime. 
 



Attitude Number

The Attitude Number is what you think you are getting. Your attitude is what impresses people. It you have an Attitude Number that's completely different from your Life Path Number, people don't know you, don't know what they're getting.

How to find your Attitude Number:

If you look at the Life Path Number of an individual that you want to understand better and it doesn't seem accurate, then study their Attitude Number by adding month and Birth-Day together, and breaking that number down to one digit.

For example, for someone born February 27th, you'd get 2+2+7 = 11, and then 1+1 = 2 ...

The 1 Attitude
This is someone who doesn't like to ask for help. They are completely self-motivated. They usually have issues with their self-esteem, as they just don't think they're good enough. That's why they need praise from others. If you believe in them, then there's nothing they can't achieve; if you don't, they rebel.
 
The 2 Attitude
is easy going. They are very good observers. They're also drawn to anything regarding psychic ability, and often may experience déjà vu. It is not uncommon for them to have a dream that comes true. They are in touch with their intuition and the metaphysical side of life. They do have compassion for people and are fascinated with people's stories. They are seldom bored.

The 3 Attitude
tends to be the joker. They have a sense of humor and are charismatic. The Peter Pan Syndrome, they don't necessarily grow up. But when they're in a good mood, it's a big smile, bright eyes, and a great conversation. If they're in a bad mood, you don't get to be happy around them. They have that effect on people.

The 4 Attitude
is a list keeper. They can be very quiet and you won't know what they're thinking. They're keeping track of all that's happening. You might find them surrounded by nature, or doing any form of repair, or construction. The 4 Attitude teaches all of us. They become an expert at their skill and teach us how to do it. They definitely will play devil's advocate: they make you see all sides. That's their Attitude Number.

The 5 Attitude
is playful and fun. You can picture then sitting on an elephant in Sri Lanka, or rafting down the Grand Canyon on their 40th birthday, while at the top of the Eiffel Tower on their 50th. See how they need to go and look at this world? They can't wait to go and experience other parts of the planet, and if they get stuck in a situation, it's too dramatic and they wind up playing the martyr. So better a 5 get out there. It's all about adventure and excitement. They love to flirt and they're usually the life of the party.

The 6 Attitude
is the nurturer. Male or female, they are taking care of everybody else. So if you have a child with a 6 attitude, they act as it they are your mother or father, they're the ones in charge. They don't want you telling them what to do or how to be. They feel useful only when things are out of control and they are fixing it. If it's peaceful, they don't know what to do with themselves. They definitely take care of other people and they're usually great with children or running a business. When a 6 walks in a room, we are drawn to them like a moth to the flame.

The 7 Attitude
You don't get to know what they're thinking or feeling. They keep to themselves and are introspective. They must continue studying the quest of why they are here: The 7 Attitude asks the big questions. They will reveal themselves slowly as they go. They can shut down and make you feel they are not remotely interested in what you are saying, but the joke is on you because they are the ultimate observers. They don't miss anything.

The 8 Attitude
More often than not, an 8 Attitude can be seen reading Investor's magazine or brainstorming on how to make some money, and establish financial security. If they have family, then they want to be a good provider. The flipside of the 8 Attitude is that money can seem completely unattainable. Money will slip right through their fingers. The 8 Attitude has no problem telling you what they really think. They can be a little too blunt, so it is best to keep their sense of humor and focus on the positive things in life!

The 9 Attitude
The 9 is the leader. At work they'll not just do their job but everyone else's. That's the Attitude Number 9, show me what to do, I'll do it. When it's over, they're exhausted and drained, but rarely allow themselves to tell the people responsible. They need to establish boundaries so that they will not feel depleted by the people in their life. The Attitude Number 9 may have old family pain that haunts them, and the 9 must work through these emotions in order to be happy today.
