Soulmate Indicators

Right People!  This is NOT meant to be a dissertation on the existence or otherwise of “soulmates” and yes, i know the term has become naff. Nor do i want to trigger any Love Zombie benders out there.
But the fact remains that although we meet a mad variety of people throughout our lives and many of them are, you know, nice or interesting – the soul zing link is rare.  That connection where your soul wakes up and you’re just BAM – instantly familiar and yourselves yet stimulated by the rapport is unbelievable.
So here follows a list of “soulmate indicators.” Some of them are super well known, others less known. The idea is to not geek out over one or two but wait till you see a whole lot of these indicators.  Some people are just all about Mars synastry – for some reason they turn us on even when it is essentially a fairly crap relationship out of bed. Others are Jupiter bonds – really enriching and intellectually broadening but not necessarily that soul zing.
To look up some of these, you will need to be familiar with the Extended Chart Selection on Astrodienst. It is at the bottom right.
And then you click on that to see this at the bottom –  your funky little window where you can enter the numbers of the asteroids you want to fling into your chart.
Those ones there are my faves at the moment btw: Eros, Psyche, Urania, Diana, Pandora, Hecate, Circe, Lust, Sappho, Lucretia, Bast and Pan.
ANYWAY: Soulmate Indicators. These all need to be pretty much exact or a few degrees out. Five max.
(1) Their chart and yours has full-on Saturn aspects. YES Saturn. Saturn is the Time Lord. People who are bound to meet have strong Saturn aspects between them. It lends an extra gravitas to the encounter. Both people immediately get that this is or could be a significant bond.  For instance Person A has Saturn on the Venus of Person B.
If you are not yet sure (and we are doing a whole few Hacks on Synastry etc later) how to compare charts, look to points with the same number or near by. AND seriously conjunctions are the easiest to spot AND the most potent.  So if your Saturn is 23 Gemini and the other person has Venus at 25 Gemini, that’s easy to spot and voila, a Saturn Venus karmic connection.
(2) Aspects to the North Node/South Node.  If the other person has Moon (in particular) Venus or Mars on your South Node, that’s meant to be the “we knew each other before” real deal. North Node? They pull you into your future, they’re like Destiny Muses.
(3) You meet during a big-time Eclipse that has relevance to both your charts AND when you bring it up, the Composite Chart, which is your charts blended together. Eg; the Eclipse was on your Sun – their Moon and the Composite Node.
(4) You have a Jupiter/Juno conjunction. Your Jupiter is on their Juno or vice versa. Voila the King and Queen of Heaven. Mars and Venus linkages are hot for chemistry but there are others more vital and stately.
(5) You have a Chariklo (asteroid 10199) Chiron synergy – Chiron is the magical, maverick healer and Chariklo is his Centaur wife. Again, don’t complicate this. Who cares if your Chariklo is sextile their Chiron by ten degrees. Go for conjunctions and as close as possible.
(6) You meet during a Pluto Venus transit. Pluto moves SO slowly that it’s pretty easy to work out what it is doing to your Venus via the Ephemerides.
(7) Their Eros in strong aspect to your Psyche or vice versa. BOTH for a super amazing past life flash recall. Eros is 433 and Psyche is 16.
(8) Slippery Alert: Neptune IS a soulmate indicator when it’s in aspect to Moon-Venus between charts but it is also the spell caster and sometimes a Neptune whammy can be a hell of a spell to come around from. So when you notice that you and another person have strong Neptune aspects between you, stay sober (maybe literally lol) and grounded. BUT…it’s another soul link indicator.
(9) Their inner planets (Mercury, Venus, Mars) or Sun/Moon on your Angles. And vice versa obviously. So the Angles in a birth chart are the Ascendant, the IC (at the base), the Descendant (opposite the Ascendant) and the MC or Midheaven at the top.
Remember, anyone who you even consider RELEVANT is going to be making some traction in your chart – like you would have aspects between charts BUT when it’s a whole pile of things going OFF, you know you’re looking at a relationship or a potential relationship with deeper import.

Identifying a great romantic-marital relationship with astrology. soulmates and twinflames – checklist

Our theme here is a great love that has the potential to turn into a great relationship, and viceversa.

A quality relationship has two Pillars, just like Boaz and Jachin, the legendary pillars of Solomon’s Temple, extrapolating it to an enduring temple of love:
  • Compatibility
  • Durability
And these two pillars have the ability to sustain the most important criterion, the Roof: Relational Happiness.

Based on my research so far, conducted on various and multiple examples of such relationships that already stood the test of time, I identified the armature of such a “building”, a must-check list when evaluating the potential of a relationship with astrology. All points on the list are present in long-term quality romantic/marital - type relationships, in various degrees for each point, and having all of them prominent in synastry/composite actually qualifies for an astrological theoretical model of romantic relationships. This model describes the best identified relationships.

There is no point in discussing Romantic Soulmates or Twinflame astrology outside the framework of how love connects with astrology in real life, outside the markers already found in enduring real-life love relationships. Our Romantic Soulmate/ Twinflame, as per the myth, completes us on the highest level of compatibility, so any Soulmate or Twinflame relationship will show at least these markers, and will have at least such a strong astrological tapestry as skeleton.

I will detail each point on the list in subsequent articles. Before proceeding to the list itself, and since this analysis includes major love/marital asteroids, I need to define the list of asteroids and call them LOVE ASTEROIDS (L.A.)
The essential Love Asteroids (L.A.) I use for such analysis:

Union (1585): major asteroid signifying the couple, the principle of relationship and union

Amor (1221): which I identify as one's greatest love in this life

Cupido (763): being stricken by Cupid's arrow, striking your arrow into someone's heart, initial attraction, the act of infatuation; in the context of a solid synastry, a source of a cyclic rejuvenation of “infatuation”

Valentine (447): falling in love, being in love, really in love, the principle of romantic love

Eros/Psyche (433/16): the Eros/Psyche myth, plus Eros viewed as our deep erotic nature, often involving transformation and sometimes with Kundalini rising undertones, and Psyche: the soul, the beauty of our soul, what touches one's soul deeply.

Lust (4386): sexual attraction, general awakening to the joy of living

Lilith - BML (Mean and True BML): passion and desire, sometimes dark-toned relationships (forbidden, compulsive etc.)

Priapus (h22): compulsive desire to merge physically and totally, great physical attraction and desire

Juno (3): one's destined partner/relational style

Vesta (4): the sacred flame, passion, something very valuable to us, what we cherish, fidelity

Ceres: the nurturer, taking care of one another, cozy, warm and plentiful; themes of co-dependency, for good or bad

Alma (390): the soul

Karma (3811): from a synastric point of view, common, shared life (destiny)

Pholus (5145): a turning point; the relationship as a crucial, life-changing event

We first look at the major aspects between planets, angles and Nodes, then the similarity/complementarity between natal charts and in synastry, both described below in THE CONNECTIONS to establish if we have grounds for such a relationship, then we look at asteroids. There's no point in looking at asteroid connections before the planetary analysis, since it may produce false results.

The topic is romantic relationships, but many of these aspects can be found in long-term valuable friendships.

NOTE: Keep in mind that the most important criterion is MUTUALITY.  All the described connections have to be mutual, equally felt on both sides. Mutuality can be mixed, not necessarily an exact, direct DW.

THE CONNECTIONS:

1. Sun/Moon and Venus/Mars aspects between charts. Ideal: DW (double whammy)

Having a Sun/Moon AND a Venus/Mars DW is quite rare, so don't get discouraged. It's a theoretical ideal. Any major aspect between Sun/Moon and Venus/Mars in a synastry is particularly strong.

A DW should include a major aspect, the other could be: 4th harmonic (semisquare, sesquisquare), 5th harmonic (quintile, biquintile), 7th harmonic (septile), 9th harmonic (novile), 11th harmonic (undecile ), 12th harmonic (semisextile).

A combination within the same harmonic is valid too: for example Sun semisquare Moon, Sun sesquisquare Moon or Sun quintile Moon/Sun biquintile Moon, or Sun septile Moon/ Sun biseptile Moon, as it often creates a specific pattern related to that harmonic.

A combination between two esoteric aspects might also work, such as: Sun septile Moon, Sun novile Moon.

However, at least one major aspect between Sun/Moon and Venus/Mars is of great importance, even if we don't have a DW.

It is unlikely that a Twinflame synastry (as theoretical model) could be qualified as such without a Sun/Moon Venus/Mars DW, because the very definition of the Twinflame, applied to astrology, is a major Yin/Yang match between charts. Since these are our primary Yin/Yang planets, they would have to be matched first and foremost, for us to even consider the Twinflame possibility.

2. Planets in aspects with angles, especially conjunct, on both sides; L.A. conjunct angles, also mutually (not necessarily a DW of the same asteroid or planet)

3. IC involvement: planets conjunct/major aspects to IC or aspecting IC ruler

4. Planets in major aspect with Lunar Nodes, either/both of them, especially conjunct; L.A. conjunct nodes; angles conjunct Nodes

5. Squares to Nodes by major planets such as: Saturn, Sun, Moon, the angle axis

6. Vx/Avx axis activated by planets and L.A., on both sides

7. Saturn connections to luminaries in synastry and/or composite (major aspects); as variation, many aspects with Saturn and personal planets on both sides and/or in the composite, although the luminary connection seems to trump all the other combinations and it is incredibly strong.

8. Mutual overlays in Cardinal and Fixed houses and at least some of these houses activated in the composite; overlays in primary and secondary love houses.

9. Aspects and compatibility between love house rulers and angle rulers

10. Complementary (Siamese and Yin/Yang) aspects in natals and synastry

The Siamese aspects are similar aspects in both natal charts, for example both have a Sun/Mars aspect in their natal chart, thus share the same energy, the natal charts mirror each other by similarity. Yin/Yang aspects are two complimentary aspects in the two natal charts, for example one partner has Sun conjunct Mars, the other has Sun conjunct Venus, or Moon conjunct Venus in their natal chart, which creates a mirror by compatibility. The principles of similarity and complementarity apply to various layers of the natal charts, not just aspects, but also the sign/house dynamics. For example, a similarity can be found when one has Venus in Scorpio for instance, and the other has Mars in the 8th, this would create a layer of shared energy, essential to any compatibility.

Compatibility between two people, from a relational point of view, is always given by a right and rich amount of similar (Siamese) and complementary (Yin/Yang) traits.

11. PATTERN COMPLETION in synastry

12. A variation of planets/L.A. and L.A. combinations in close conjunction or DW or involved in regular closed patterns such as the Grand Cross and the Grand Trine or Kite, with a special note to:

Eros/Psyche
Juno/Jupiter
Alma/Juno: alma "soul" juno "partner" = the soulmate
Juno/Psyche: soulmate
Venus/Psyche: soulful love
Venus/Karma: destined love
Union/Alma: soul union
Union/Psyche: soul union
Amor to angles, Sun, Moon, Venus, Neptune, Pluto and other L.A.
Valentine to angles, Sun, Moon, Venus, Neptune, Pluto and other L.A.
Ceres to angles, Sun, Moon, Venus, L.A.
Juno conjunctions/DW/patterns
Vesta conjunctions/DW/patterns

13. Karma contacts: conjunctions/DW/patterns to any of the above

14. Planets conjunct house cusps in overlays, on both sides.

What is a Twinflame?

Twin Flame reunions are the most fulfilling relationships we can enter into as humans, on all levels. However, twin flame couples have been extremely rare on the planet, and for good reasons, which will be described later. Despite this, we are finding that more and more twins are finding each other now, because of the acceleration of spiritual transformation and opportunities for soul evolution we are all experiencing. People are evolving and learning and healing at such a fast rate that they are getting ready for their twins faster. What used to take lifetimes to learn and heal, people are now going through in years or even months. This is the astounding level of acceleration we and the planet are going through.

When twins get together, it is for some kind of spiritual service work. This is their primary reason for finding each other, because through their union a huge birthing of creative energy is released, to be used for their mission together. More and more twins are attempting to get together now to help the planet and humanity make a big shift forward in consciousness.

However, many of these attempts at reunion are unsuccessful because the individual people are not quite ready for the intensity of a twin flame union. It is more intense than any other union, and this intensity is at a soul level, not as much in the physical or even emotional bodies. This doesn't mean that there isn't a good attraction at those levels as well, but the strongest attraction is of spirit. This is one of the distinguishing characteristics of a twin soul. Many people think they have met their twin because the attraction is so intense, but it is a karmic attraction, one of need or bodily desire rather than the Divine Love of twins.

Your chance of meeting and staying with your twin depends on how evolved your soul is, and how much of your baggage from this and past lives you have cleared. The biggest reason twins have to separate after coming together is their individual emotional baggage. Because in the presence of your twin, there can be nothing between you, nothing blocking your closeness. This means that everything comes up for healing that you haven't previously healed. Everything!

When twins reunite, both of them experience an acceleration of their spiritual growth and awakening. They get on the fast track of learning about esoteric wisdom and experiencing other states of consciousness. They usually haven't been together all that often during their series of lives on the planet, and so their backgrounds may be different. Yet, there is a closeness and similarities of spirit that are almost uncanny, noticed in many ways, such as looking back at yourself when you look at your mate, and a remembering of the distant past when you first split up. Guidance is strong with these relationships, and usually one or both have a good channel for communication with Spirit. Their connection is telepathic, and hugging each other is like coming home for nourishment.

Signs that you have found your Twinflame

An overwhelming sense of love and attraction.

A sense of completion that goes beyond words.

A magnetism to the other stronger than anything you have ever experienced.

You will complement one another.

The ability to literally feel one another whether you are with or without your partner.

A feeling that you are so close you just might be related - like a brother or a sister.

A complete and total breakdown of your lives as you knew them upon finding one another.

The power to touch the other without physical means from great distances.

Over the course of your life you may have dreams of a "mystery man/woman."

Synchronicities will be abundant. You may find yourselves calling, emailing and texting one another at the exact same time. You may also find yourselves buying each other the same gifts.

You may feel your heart wanting to jump out of your chest at the sound of his/hers voice.

The ability to feel each others emotions, whether they be happy or sad ones, from great distances.

The desire to be with one another no matter what the obstacle blocking your way.

The ability to dream of your partner in their current state and verify the accuracy of that dream, later.

You may notice the ability to collapse time as you knew it. Upon your coming together, time itself will cease to exist.

When you and your partner are out and about, you may notice the eyes of everyone are upon you. Your love for one another will be so great that it is not uncommon for the eyes of everyone to be upon the two of you.

You may find yourselves completing each others sentences, sometimes even before you have the chance to begin them.

Upon connecting with your twin flame/soulmate, you may find that you are practically mirror images of one another and that you may want to even run from your partner because of the things you see in yourself from the reflection of his/her eyes.

If you currently live apart, (even at great distances) you may notice the power to be sexually intimate without ever even physically touching the other.

You may notice that any of your bad habits, ie. smoking, drinking, or whatever they be, will adversely effect you. Even in your diet, food that you used to be able to eat, will have to be set aside.

You may find that certain dates in your lives, ie. birthdays or the even the day you met, will fit perfectly into the Fibonacci Sequence or the number 11 11.

A realization that this isn't the first time the two of you have met. Past life experiences.

Karmic and Soulmate Connection

Feel The Rhythm: Ascendant Connections

Never underestimate the power of the Ascendant! It may be easy to underplay, or even dismiss altogether, the Ascendant's role in interpersonal relationships when we think of the Ascendant as the "mask" we wear when we meet others. If the Ascendant is a mere mask, shouldn't it only be important at the very beginning of a relationship? We don't think so. In fact, we feel that the Ascendant has an ongoing, vital role in relationships of all kinds, including long-lasting, one-to-one relationships. We have found that interplays between Ascendants can be the source of basic conflict or harmony, on a body level.
Remember as well that the Ascendant defines the Descendant, which is a highly sensitive relationship point in the natal chart.

You Complete Me: Grand Trines in Synastry

In our experience, one of the most powerful indicators of special relationships occurs when a simple trine in one person's natal chart is effectively turned into aGrand Trine by another person's planet(s), particularly when it involves personal planets. For example, in one person's chart, Mars is in the early degrees of Sagittarius and trines the Moon in the early degrees of Aries. A planet in the early degrees of Leo would form a Grand Trine in this native's chart, but doesn't exist. Her partner's Sun fills this pattern, as it is in the early degrees of Leo. This powerful connection is especially potent when it is reciprocated. A special bond exists between the natives.

Haven't We Met Before?: Nodes of the Moon

Many astrologers consider the Nodes of the Moon an important axis, and some believe the axis relates to past life connections. Whether or not you agree with theories of reincarnation, this axis is a sensitive point in any chart and it deals with important life lessons. When strong contacts exist with the Nodes of the Moon in synastry, there is a deep compulsion to be together. Read more detail about the Nodes of the Moon in Synastry here.

You are Made for Me: The Vertex

A lesser known point in any natal chart is the vertex. It acts almost like a secondary descendant. Strong interaspects involving the vertex are found in the synastry of people who feel they are made for each other. There is a fated quality attached to the vertex.

Sign Interchanges

When sign positions of planets are interchanged, there is a special compatibility and fascination. For example, if one person has a Sun in Aries and Venus in Taurus, and another person has Sun in Taurus and Venus in Aries, although they will act quite differently, this pair will have some interesting exchanges in their relationship.

I Feel For You: Sun/Moon Contacts

When one partner's Sun makes an aspect with the other's Moon, there is a natural affinity. The Moon person supports the Sun in quiet but meaningful ways, and the Sun person returns the favor with an affirming energy.

You Rock My World: Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto (and Chiron) Connections

When the outer planets (Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto) figure strongly in the synastry of two individuals, there is generally a powerful feeling of being uplifted and transformed through contact with each other. Chiron figuring prominently in synastry seems to be just as potent.

You Give My Life Meaning: Sun/Moon Midpoint Connections

A person's Sun/Moon midpoint () is a point of great sensitivity. In a natal chart, planets that form a hard aspect to this point are highlighted, and tend to reveal a strong sense of destiny and identity. Naturally, when a planet in another person's chart makes a hard aspect to this point in a native's chart, that other person tends to give the native a feeling of purpose and meaning.

Asteroids: Eros & Psyche

Amor & Psyche
Amor & Psyche
Some astrologers are studying the role of asteroids in astrology. Strong connections between the asteroids Eros () and Psyche () in synastry point to a powerful romantic and sexual relationship.

The Composite Chart

Soulmates always have a powerful composite chart. That is, their composite chart is not scattered—it contains plenty of strong aspects and connections. The Sun and Moon are generally strongly aspected (not necessarily with each other); and similar patterns exist with the other personal planets—Venus, Mercury, and Mars.

One of the classic marks of a strong relationship is a close conjunction between one person's Sun and the other person's Moon. Squares and oppositions are also strong, but the soft angles of trines and sextiles are not strong indicators in and of themselves. However, if there are other indicators, then the trines and sextiles certainly add to the strength of the relationship.

Close contacts between one person's Sun and another person's Ascendant are also strong indicators of Soulmate possibilities. Conjunctions are strongest with squares and oppositions also strong.

Contacts between one person's Mars and another person's Venus are also very important in romantic and/or sexual relationships. (These would not be as significant in non-romantic or non-sexual soulmates, often called soul brothers or soul sisters.)

Sun/Mars and Sun/Venus contacts, and Venus/Venus contacts and Moon/Moon contacts and Sun/Sun contacts can also be important, although possibly not as strong as the previously mentioned contacts. Again, the hard aspects of conjunction, square, and opposition seem to carry more weight than trines and sextiles.

Sometimes Sun/Neptune contacts are indicators of soulmate relationships although many astrologers don't seem to say much about this one when discussing soulmates. At the very least, Sun/Neptune contacts indicate a feeling of merging into each other, which can be quite exhilarating. Often it is hard to tell where one person ends and the other person begins. The two people frequently have a strong psychic connection as well as a other types of connections.

Moving beyond planets and the Ascendant, there are some additional astrological clues for possible soulmate relationships. First, if one person's nodes are prominent in another person's chart, this is significant. Examples would be if the nodes of one person were square the nodes of the other person, if the nodes of one person were along the other person's Ascendant/Descendant, if the nodes of one person were conjunct/opposite/square the Sun or Moon of the other person.

Secondly, the Vertex is often used with synastry (chart comparison). If one person's Vertex makes a hard aspect to a planet or angle of the other person, this is a strong indicator of a karmic relationship, although not necessarily a soulmate one.

Thirdly, if the two persons have their angles square one another, this is a strong point of synastry. For instance, if one person's Ascendant/Descant is square the other person's Ascendant/Descendant, or if one person's Ascendant/Descendant is conjunct the other person's Midheaven/IC, then this is a strong karmic indicator, usually a Soulmate one of some kind.

Another indicator, one not commonly discussed, would be a similarity of pattern. In astrology, we talk about patterns that the planets make in a chart. Such patterns are called bowls, buckets, kites, yods, and so forth. If two persons have similar patterns and if those patterns have similar distinguishing marks, that could be a good indication of soulmate probability. For instance, for one soulmate couple that I know, both persons had a kite in their charts. Kites consist of a Grand Trine (three trines), and then an opposition to one corner of the trine which sextiles to the other two corners. The end result is a pattern that looks like a kite. Kites are not very common, and for two people to both have kites in a relationship made me sit up a bit straighter. Then I kept looking. Both of the Grand Trines were in Air signs, although the planets were not the same nor were the houses. Finally, both Kites had the same planet as the opposing planet. Thus, not only did the two people have the same pattern, but both patterns shared two strong distinguishing features.

Yet one more indicator might be that the Part of Marriage for one person falls upon a significant placement of another person's chart. The Part of Marriage is calculated by adding the Ascendant to the Descendant and then subtracting Venus. Some astrologers also use the Parts of Fascination and Karma when looking for Soulmate connections. The Part of Fascination is calculated by adding the Ascendant and Venus and then subtracting Uranus. The Part of Karma is calculated by Adding the Ascendant to Saturn and subtracting the Sun. (It helps to convert the signs to 360 degree equivalents when doing this sort of work or having your computer program calculate these parts for you.)

I'm writing all of this off the top of my head, not from prepared notes or a text, so I'm sure that I'm leaving out some significant soulmate indicators. However, this is enough for even an astrological novice to see that there is no one definitive marker of soulmates in astrological charts. If you and another person share several of these features between your charts, chances are that you are soulmates. However, remember that not even soulmate relationships exist happily ever after without a great deal of work and effort. Good luck, best wishes, and happy hunting.

Chiron by conjunction in relationship synastry can bring great attraction and common interests, then sudden, inexplicable and bizarre reversals - the potential for mutual growth is enormous if the parties don't destroy each other and themselves in the process.

Ceres conjunctions and midpoints in synastry enhance the quality of any kind of relationship due to the desire of the Ceres person to provide comfort, patience, and unconditional love to another.

Juno conjunctions and midpoints in synastry provide points of attraction and greater likelihood of long-term collaboration.

Pallas may also deal with sexual intimacy among women, as seen by aspect and synastry.

In synastry, Vesta is a comfortable hearth of gentle warmth and good feelings.

The Vertex point is found on the right side of the chart, and has been called an "unconscious Descendant," and is a very sensitive point having to do with relationship and partnership matters. Another person's planets conjunct one's vertex can be highly significant in a relationship. Vertex midpoints in synastry also pertain to the nature of close relationships. Conjunctions to the Vertex and Vertex midpoints in synastry often have a "karmic" feeling about them.
