Marriage Horoscope

"Even if we do not have a great birth chart, we can still achieve lifelong happiness and enormous success. But our Marriage Chart is crucial in this regard." - Magi Astrology

Marriage, Composite, and Compatibility Charts

Over the years I've been asked by countless people how to know if they're compatible with someone, as well as those wanting to know if the time and day they want to get married is important. This article explains synastry, the composite chart, and the importance of the marriage chart, as well as other factors.

There are several ways to find out how compatible we are with another, and where our points of harmony and friction occur. Many have compatibility and/or composite charts done for a prospective loved one, and these offer much valuable information. There is another crucial chart to have calculated before we marry, and that's the Marriage chart, done for the time of initiating the marriage ceremony. This begins the adventure, and gives new momentum and energy to a relationship.

The Marriage chart is very important, like the timing on launching a business, starting a project, or when we buy or sell something. A crucial component of success in relationships, along with resources, tools, and skills, is the best time for beginning a partnership, project, or new initiative. The branch of astrology dealing with launching things is Electional (or Inceptional) Astrology, and is an art in itself. Each moment has its special qualities and challenges, and it's always good to launch our boats on a favorable tide.

That said, it is equally important to remember that it is impossible to counteract "real world" conditions. For instance, you can plant potatoes on the best day of the month astrologically, but will probably not get many potatoes if you've planted in November rather than April in Northern climes. By the same token, you may get a great deal on a house, but if the house has plumbing problems, you'll still have to deal with them. And yes, plumbing (or electrical, or foundation) problems can be seen in the chart of when you first look at a house, as well as when you close escrow.

A compatibility chart done using Synastry, tells a lot about whether two people are suited to each other. This is where we look at how person A's planets fall in person B's houses, and vise-versa, along with the aspects between all the rulers of houses. It reveals many intricacies between people, and where common ground can be found, if it can be found at all. We're usually attracted to various planet energies for all kinds of reasons, some of which change over time. That's why we fall into harmony and disharmony for whatever reasons.

While compatibility analysis is extremely important and revealing of points of harmony and conflict, there are other important charts that give valuable information about two people's compatibility. One is a chart done for the time when two people first meet. Another is the composite chart. The composite chart is derived from the midpoints of the similar planets between two charts, i.e., if one is an Aquarius and the other is a Gemini, as a rule the composite Sun will be in Aries. And if one Moon is in Sagittarius and the other Moon is in Aquarius, the composite Moon is likely in Capricorn, the sign in between Sag and Aquarius.

The marriage chart is actually an Inceptional chart, in that a marriage is the inception of the contract of partnership. Thus it shows the past, present, and future of the individuals, as well as the composite unit. That's why it's important to find a time that is very compatible with the charts of both, and is compatible within itself. This is a specialized branch of Astrology, but crucial in the social-emotional realm of applying our craft.

If you know astrology, here are a few pointers to consider. In any marriage chart it is good to make sure that the natal chart rulers of the two people getting married are harmoniously aspected with each other, and if possible, the mutual rulers of each person's marriage house (7th house). FYI, "love affairs" are ruled by the 5th house, not the 7th. That's why even if one has a boyfriend or girlfriend for years but has never "married," then it cannot be counted as a 7th house activity. Contracts are governed by the 7th house, and marriage is a contract, both written and verbal.

The first marriage is ruled by the 7th house, as are all partnership circumstances throughout the life. The second marriage is ruled by the 9th house, the third marriage by the 11th house, and so on. This is the source of much confusion among amateur astrologers and novices at the craft, and the reason I ask people who come to me for a wedding date whether they've been married before or not. If I'm planning someone's second wedding, then their significator is the ruler of their 9th house and any planets in that house, and the 7th becomes more of a secondary generic influence.

Obviously there are many days where a marriage can be happy and last a long time. It sometimes depends on what time of day you're willing to do it, which is a consideration if one does not want to explain why the ceremony HAD to begin at 7:28 am on maybe 8:34 pm on any particular day. And what is good then may not be good done an hour earlier or later, due to rulership changes.

I'll close with the thought that even if a marriage chart has difficult aspects we may be able to create a favorable outcome if the foundations of affection, respect and heart-centered Love allow the Higher Self of each to come forth. Then we grow in Love and Wisdom despite the challenges we confront. We may not be able to control some events. We may not be able to control the responses of others. But we can always choose to see the Higher Way, since we are in fact, Spirits in the material world.

Marriage Horoscopes and - Hopefully - Your Most Fortunate Day

Marriage horoscopes are just one of the other inceptional charts that describe the potential of your marriage.

In fact, every (new) beginning, be it a new love, a new job, a move, a birth... can be judged by such inceptional horoscopes. Just draw a chart for that very moment of beginning, and you'll be able to delineate the innate disposition, development and outcome, out of this moment as a self-developing story.

So, with the marriage charts, set up for the exact moment when the couple exchanges vows and is officially pronounced man and wife, we can see how the marriage will unfold and develop.

You may argue then, that carefully choosing the right moment for such an important event must be most recommended.

It is, BUT, experience shows us that what is not indicated in the birth chart, will not happen.

So, if your birth chart shows marital problems, you may choose all possible (fortunate) marriage horoscopes, you just will have marital problems....

This kind of 'determinism' may seem hard to understand, but remember for now that this knowledge is grown out of experience and NOT out of reasoning....

Nevertheless, some rules may apply as to choosing the right or appropriate moment for a marriage.

Among astrologers there is some doubt as to the exact moment the marriage is sealed.

Is it the moment of the vows, is it the official pronouncement of man and wife or is it the exchange of rings?

Resolving this question can only be done by looking at the deeper meaning of the ritual of a marriage.

We may ask you, when are you married? When do you feel that you are married, that you are man and wife?
We, at Cosmic Technologies (CosmiTec), are of opinion that you feel man and wife, when YOU officially and personally say 'YES'.....

So, this will be the moment to erect our marriage horoscopes. That's why we will only use the time of the legal ceremony when you say YES to set up the marriage horoscopes.

Only then, you are officially married!

As marriage horoscopes are delineated as electional horoscopes, some rules are the same.

Often astrologer think that they can choose a time when the planets indicate harmony and happiness for the marriage horoscopes, giving destiny a helping hand.

Alas.... there is NO guarantee that this time is the most propitious one.

Most couples plan a period (or year) within which they want to get married. But what if a year (or two or three or four,...) later there is a more auspicious period....

And what if the astrologer does not know about some invaluable (and lesser known) astrological techniques to find the most auspicious period?

We already touched this topic on this web site when we mentioned that some astrologers know more than others....

Astrologers should be VERY aware of the responsability they have when trying to choose a fortunate moment in time.

We just want to say it again: don't give your life out of hands. No one astrologer knows it all!

If you want to consult an astrologer to erect some marriage horoscopes, consult 2 or 3 other astrologers! Together they know more and, in the end YOU too!

However, we, at Cosmic Technologies (CosmiTec), will give you some valuable rules to guide you choosing a propitious period. Our own researched Marriage Graphs will be of help too in choosing your best wedding date.

We will not give any details as to find the best time (hour), since you will almost never be able to pinpoint the pronouncement of man and wife to the minute... BE REALISTIC!

If there is some delay of any kind, are you going to postpone your marriage because the hour might be wrong? You must be silly!
And what if you have found that the best time is in the late afternoon, on a moment there even are no marriage ceremonies organized...
If you love somebody, go for LOVE, not for astrology!
If the day is fortunate, we just hope the hour will be too. And, between..., we hope your natal chart shows some marital bliss too...
Now to the most comprehensible rules for the marriage horoscopes (there are numerous more, but we'll only mention the most important ones, not to overwhelm you with information).
  • Mind the position of the Moon! Some astrologers advice to avoid New and Full Moons. New Moons mostly have a hidden influence. Things are not that clear and there may be a lack of foresight. Things have NOT developed enough to start, so a marriage on a New Moon is not advisable.

The Full Moon is more developed and visible to the public. There is maximum visibility and because of the opposition between the luminaries, this Lunation has the quality of an encounter (the Moon in the 7th - equal - house counting from the Sun).

We, at Cosmic Technologies (CosmiTec) think that a Full Moon is a good day for a marriage because it signifies the culmination, the fulfillment of the love relationship and love-cycle. So, in our opinion, marriage horoscopes may contain a Full Moon, especially when the Moon is still waxing.

And, last but not least, avoid a Moon Void of Course!
  • Avoid (applying) squares or oppositions from the Moon to Mars, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune or Pluto. These aspects are a burden, causing tragedies, disruptive events, separations etc. in the family.
  • Avoid any planet in the same degree as the Moon's Node. According to the fabulous astrologer Ivy M. Goldstein-Jacobson this planet points to a catastrophe, casualty, fatality or tragedy, the more far-reaching when a malefic (Mars or Saturn) is involved.
  • Avoid retrograde personal planets (like Mercury or Venus) or Mars. Retrograde planets let you RE-do, RE-think the matter (the marriage too).

Retrograde planets may feel RE-stricted, RE-pulsed, RE-fused. Retrograde planets almost always signify or represent persons in your life that are hiding, shy or ill (This is a HOT tip!). But they can also RE-try and RE-evaluate.

We, at Cosmic Technologies, can confirm that retrograde planets may cause some irritations, trouble and delay. You'll have to wait till the planet turns direct for a more fluent and 'direct' action.
  • Try to avoid any planet in one of the following positions:
    • the 19th degree Scorpio: Serpentis or the accursed degree bringing sorrow. Things are not as they seem.
    • the 9th degree Libra: the position of the Fixed Star Vindemiatrix: the Star of Widowhood
    • the last degrees of the sign Taurus: the Head of Medusa, especially the 26th and the 29th degree. The 26th degree is the position of Algol, the most evil Fixed Star, causing to lose your head. The 29th degree Taurus is the position of the Weeping Sisters, causing something to weep about. It may (will) bring sadness and endings! We, at Cosmic Technologies, have found these degrees to be MOST important, so, indeed, don't neglect them - or better, DO avoid them in marriage horoscopes
    • the 23th degree Pisces, a degree of sorrow, sadness and unhappiness. It's a very disturbing degree that you MUST avoid in the marriage horoscopes at all cost! In our experience, this degree has brought lots of tearful events, aggression and fights. Don't make love a battlefield!
    • try to avoid in the marriage horoscopes the day the Moon is in the Via Combusta (15° Libra - 15° Scorpio, except for the safe degrees of 22-24° Libra) because this brings misfortune and illness
  • avoid a marriage on the so-called "dies atri" or unlucky or ill-omened days. These days are said to bring hard luck, trouble, chaotic experiences, delays, restrictions and/or disturbing events. The dies atri are:
    • January 2, 3, 4 and 18
    • February 3, 6, 8 and 16
    • March 13, 14, 15 and 29
    • April 19
    • May 3, 10, 22 and 25
    • June 17 and 30
    • July 19, 22 and 28
    • August 1, 17, 21, 22 and 29
    • September 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28
    • October 3, 6 and 11
    • November 12
    • (December has no dies atri)
  • Mind the position of Venus, the planet of love, relationships and sociability because, in marriage horoscopes, this planet becomes more important!
  • Look at the most exact midpoints with an orb of 0°00'-0°01'.

    What are midpoints?

A midpoint is a point half-way between two planets/points, it is the half-distance between two plants. This (mid)point may be occupied by a third planet/point or it may be in aspect to a third planet.
Look at the Chart Wheel below:

Do you see how Jupiter occupies the half-distance between Saturn and the Sun? No?...

Let's make it more visible by deleting all the planets, except for Jupiter, Saturn and the Sun.

Do you see the thick blue lines pointing to the midpoint? So, indeed Jupiter is located at the middle distance between Saturn and the Sun. This is called a direct midpoint.

An indirect midpoint is a planet located in an aspect to the middle distance between two planets.Look at the picture below: Neptune is located 135° to the middle distance between Venus and Saturn.

Of course, any astrological software program can list all midpoints in a snap for you...
Exact midpoints are invaluable. They are SUPER important because they absolutely OVERPOWER the aspects.

Vedic Marriage Horoscopes

Hindu astrologers use some specific rules to assess the Vedic marriage horoscopes.

Let's take a look.

According to some Vedic sources the best months to marry are February, March, May and June. It's still unclear to us why this is so.

The position of the Moon in the Vedic marriage horoscopes is very important too.

The Moon should be in one of the following Nakshatras: Rohini, Mr(i)gas(h)iras(ha), Magha, Hasta, Svati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara(A)shadha, Uttarabhadrapada or Revati.

Marriages should be avoided on the following dates:

* on New Moon
* on the last five days before New Moon
* on the 4th, 6th, 8th, 9th or 14th days after New Moon or Full Moon

Most serious Vedic astrologers consider 4 important points before a marriage is contracted:

* assessment of the longevity of the partners
* mental and psychological health of the partners
* likelihood of different marriages
* Dosha Samya (balance of malefics)
* eventually (!), Kuta agreement

Contrary to what you will find on the Internet, Kuta agreement is just one part to assess vedic marriage horoscopes and just the very last part because it's not that reliable and way too general.

    Chiron, Juno and Golden Time

Juno is the “planet” that rules the MISTRESS, and not the SPOUSE. Juno has no rulership over marriage, but instead Juno rules the AFFAIR that does not result in marriage. Juno also is ruler of infidelity.

The Juno-Venus linkage is the most reliable astrological sign of the mistress and an affair THAT WOULD NOT LEAD TO MARRIAGE. (The exception would be if there were also Cinderella Linkages, and if the Chiron Linkages were more numerous and more exact than the Juno linkages).

Chiron is ruler of marriage and Juno symbolizes the affair. There is obviously a big difference between marriages and affairs. Juno Linkages are quite often the second best astrological clue we have to help us to know whether or not an affair will ever lead to marriage. (The best clue is still Romantic Super Linkages.)

Chiron Linkages are not just signs of enduring love, but Chiron Linkages actually actively create the conditions necessary for a couple to marry; on the other hand, Juno Linkages impede the development of the conditions necessary for a couple to marry.

According to Magi Astrology, Juno is ruler of the mistress, the affair that does not lead to marriage, the desire to remain single, and disrespect for the institution of marriage. Juno rules sex outside of marriage, sex without commitment, sex without love, sex without feelings, unwed mothers, children out of wedlock, and being less responsible than one should be.

Whereas in Magi Astrology, Chiron is the ruler of commitment, true love, marriage and having children through marriage.

Magi Astrology has developed the following rules:

    # Chiron versus Juno Rule One: Any Chiron Linkage formed between the two persons increases the chances of marriage between two persons, except the Chiron/Juno linkage.

    # Chiron versus Juno Rule Two: Any Juno linkage formed between two persons reduces the chances of marriage between the two persons, except the Chiron/Juno Linkage.

    # Chiron Versus Juno Rule Three: The Chiron/Juno linkage neither increases nor decreases the chances of marriage; it does however greatly increase the chances of a long-term intimate relationship between two heterosexual persons (it does not increase the chances of a long-term intimate relationship between same-sex couples).

In Magi Astrology, the Chiron/Juno Linkage is not a Chiron Linkage, and it is not a Juno Linkage. We are not trying to be cute but it is a Chiron/Juno Linkage and a sign of long-term togetherness that neither tilts toward marriage nor away from marriage. For this reason, the Magi Society refers to the Chiron/Juno Linkage as the Long-Term Linkage.

Chiron can form Cinderella Linkages when it is at a MAGIcal Angle to Venus, Jupiter, Neptune and Pluto and that Chiron is symbolic of lasting love. B

TAKING THE MOST ADVANTAGE OF YOUR GOLDEN TIME

Everyone has a Golden Time that is reserved by the stars. The trouble is, almost everyone is in the wrong place, and doing the wrong things, during their Golden Times. In order to achieve the maximum success, we must take advantage of our Golden Times. In our third book, Magi Astrology: the Key to Success in Love and Money, we explain the principles that help us to foretell our Golden Times. The key to recognizing Golden Times is Magi Astrology, and its use of CHIRON. Chiron is the celestial sign of Golden Times (and Cinderella Times). Whenever Chiron makes a MAGICAL angle to one of our important NATAL PLANETS, the Golden Doorway opens, and we must work hard and rush through it. Almost everyone who has been super successful has taken full advantage of the times when his or her Golden Doorways were open.

The important lesson here is that when the time is right, we must take advantage of it. Too often, we are not doing what we need to do during our Golden Times. We could be on vacation, or not actively working towards our dreams during our Golden Times. This is why hard work is crucial to success and why everyone who has made it says that hard work was the key. If you keep working as hard as you can, all the time, you will not miss your Golden Time.

The Asteroids and Miscellaneous Astrological Factors

    Five Major Asteroids

Astrologers today commonly use 5 asteroids:  Chiron, Ceres, Juno, Pallas Athena, and Vesta.

    Chiron:

Chiron is known as the "wounded healer," and there is often one or more major wounds or traumas around the sign and/or house of Chiron in a person's chart. There can be decades between such wounds, so no one can afford to be complacent in these areas. Getting over the wound or trauma may involve realizing one's spiritual identity beyond worldly personality and ego, winning at a soul level while losing externally, and only later over time coming into one's own authority in the world in a particular subject area or niche. Chiron by conjunction in relationship synastry can bring great attraction and common interests, then sudden, inexplicable and bizarre reversals - the potential for mutual growth is enormous if the parties don't destroy each other and themselves in the process. Chiron very close to the Ascendant in relocation charts can be severe in health matters, and unduly problematic when tightly close to the other angles as well.

    Ceres:

Ceres is largest of the major asteroids, and had to do with nourishment and nurturing, helping to bring comfort. Ceres like a combined Taurus/Cancer/Venus/Moon influence. Ceres is nearly always auspicious in no matter what configuration we find it. Ceres conjunctions and midpoints in synastry enhance the quality of any kind of relationship due to the desire of the Ceres person to provide comfort, patience, and unconditional love to another. Ceres in relocation astrology points to places to raise or work with children, grow gardens, or be involved in agriculture.

    Juno:

Juno asteroid relates to marriage, partnership and collaboration. Like Venus, Juno by sign can tell us some of the qualities one prefers in close associates, and by house, where and how we're likely to find these people. Juno conjunctions and midpoints in synastry provide points of attraction and greater likelihood of long-term collaboration. Juno in relocation astrology points to places where potential partners and collaborators reside or are "from" (where they were born, grew up, or lived for a long time).

    Pallas Athena:

The asteroid Pallas Athena has to do with wisdom, intuitive development, a balance of intuition and logic, strategy, science, the genetic code and biotechnology. Pallas may also deal with sexual intimacy among women, as seen by aspect and synastry.

    Vesta:

Vesta asteroid is the "keeper of the flame," guardian of the truth and other spiritual and cultural values. Vesta is of special importance to "old souls" who have a sense of mission and purpose, who "hold the space" or "create a context" for what is of great value. In synastry, Vesta is a comfortable hearth of gentle warmth and good feelings. In relocation astrology, I've observed that old souls like to be on their Vesta local space or MC lines, feel a sense of mission and purpose there, as well as a warm fuzzy enjoyment of the little things in life.

    Miscellaneous Astrological Factors

    The Houses:

An astrological chart is in the shape of a circle with 12 pie-shaped sectors. The 12 sectors or wedges are the "houses" of your chart, what I call "the areas of human concern" such as: self, home, partner, career, friends, children, and much more.

Having no planets in a given house doesn't mean nothing is going on in that area of life for you. To get clues to that area of life, we use the ruler of the empty house, its house position, sign, and aspects. Of course, all of this is related to the Sun, which is the focal point of your chart. Your chart is a whole pattern, integrated by your consciousness, ethics, and your soul's desire for experience.

There are different house systems for determining how many degrees are in each house of a particular chart. The Koch house system has become very popular among American astrologers in the last 10-15 years, though Placidean system is still popular in the U.S. as well. Equal House system is common in Great Britain, and Campanus system is used in the Scandinavian countries to handle higher latitudes there. Additionally, there are other, less commonly-used house systems.

    The Ascendant:

The Ascendant (also known as the rising sign) is the sign rising in the east at the time of your birth. The Ascendant is calculated based on: 1) your full date of birth, 2) exact time of birth including a.m./p.m., and 3) location of birth (city/state/country).

The Ascendant or rising sign has to do with how you appear to others, what people first see about you, your outward personality, your image, your "calling card" in the world, how you project yourself, something about your physical features and body, and often shows natural gifts and talents that are easy for you to further develop.

    The Midheaven:

The Midheaven (Medium Coeli or MC) is the highest point, the point at the top, of an astrological chart. The Midheaven sign and the ruler of the Midheaven, may give clues to your career, public reputation, and relationship to those in authority. The Midheaven (as "end-of-the-matter" in 7th house relationship questions) and MC midpoints deal also with close relationships and their outcome.

    The Descendant:

The Descendant is on the far right of the chart, at the 7th house cusp, opposite the Ascendant. The Descendant has to do with relationships, the "other" in life. Marriage or business partners, open enemies, opponents, and/or the general public can be represented by the Descendant or ruler of the Descendant.

    The Vertex Point:

The Vertex point is found on the right side of the chart, and has been called an "unconscious Descendant," and is a very sensitive point having to do with relationship and partnership matters. Another person's planets conjunct one's vertex can be highly significant in a relationship. Vertex midpoints in synastry also pertain to the nature of close relationships. Conjunctions to the Vertex and Vertex midpoints in synastry often have a "karmic" feeling about them.

    The Nadir:

The Nadir (Imum Coeli or IC) is the lowest point in the chart, the 4th house cusp. It could in some sense be considered the "bottom line" of the chart, and its sign and ruler say something about what helps the person to feel secure in the world, what helps them feel like they belong, what they need to be comfortable in the world. The Nadir and/or ruler of the Nadir very often point to a successful career focus as well, even though we normally associate career with the MC and 10th house.

    The Part of Fortune:

The Part of Fortune is not a planet, but a mathematical calculation based on the position of your Ascendant, Moon, and Sun. The Part of Fortune acts similarly to a Jupiter influence by sign and house, giving support for the activities of that house.

Planets at 0 or 29 Degrees of a Sign:

The 29th degree always brings a great fullness of whatever that sign represents. For example, Venus at 29 degrees Pisces would have compassion, intuition, refined aesthetic sense, spiritual and romantic love. I find the focus is very much on the sign in question, in this example Pisces, and then when the planet goes into the next sign by transit or progression, there is a big burst of energy, a mini-explosion into a new area, a new way of being.

Planets at 29 degrees and at 0 degrees are very powerful, one in an experienced, confident, even masterful way, and the other in a fresh, innocent, and impulsive way that demands attention.

Now in a natal chart, the 29 degree planet will likely progress to 0 degrees of the next sign fairly soon after birth, so both influences operate. The person still has all the 29 degree sign experience for the course of the lifetime, yet branches out and moves into the new sign as well, giving lots of possibilities since adjacent signs are quite different.

Later, the planet may progress into yet another sign, which adds even more richness and complexity to the way the person creates his life. We pick up so much experience and perspective as we go along, this makes for a very rich lifetime if we can appreciate it.

    Planets on the Cusp:

A cusp is a point marking the ending of one sign and beginning of another, or the ending of one house and beginning of another. You may hear people speak of their Sun sign as "on the cusp," for example on the border or cusp of Libra and Scorpio. If the person has not had his chart professionally calculated, he may not know what his Sun sign actually is. He is one Sun sign OR the other, but he may speak out of ignorance, and may have been told he has qualities of both signs because his Sun is near the cusp. I disagree with this interpretation. If a person has his Sun near a cusp, I say he has qualities of both signs only if he also has planets in the other sign in question, for example a Scorpio who also had planets in Libra. See also notes on 29 degree planets above.

    Transits and Progressions:

Astrologers update a chart with transits and progressions, meaning they add present-time information to your natal chart to show major trends, growth, opportunities, challenges.

Transits are where the planets are in present-time and how they relate to your natal chart (birthchart). Astrologers look mainly at "major transits" of the slow-moving planets (the outer planets in our solar system) when placing transits on your natal chart in order to view major trends.

Progressions are a mathematical calculation only, yet reflect major trends or directions in life. The progressed Sun shows major soul cycles, staying in a sign for 30 years. A progressed planet changing sign reflects an opening or breakthrough in the way you do things or approach some aspect of life, and signals the closing of a door on an earlier chapter of life ("been there, done that") and the opening of an entirely new chapter of life. The progressed Moon moves around your chart at about one degree per month, staying in a sign for 2 1/2 years, and shows an area where you have a lot of psychic attention at that time in your life.

    Aspects in Synastry

These are the aspects to look for when comparing chartsfor a couple's astrological compatibility.

Let's look first at the harmonious aspects you would like to have between these planets.
These aspects are the Trine, Sextile, and sometimes the Conjunct.
    * Sun and Moon (represents man/woman)
    * Sun and Sun (natural affinity)
    * Sun and Chiron (trustworthy)
    * Moon and Moon (Emotionally attuned)
    * Moon and Ascendant or Descendant (a soul kinship)
    * Moon and Mars (Adds some heat - conjunction can be too combative)
    * Venusand Mars (sexual, affectionate
    vibe)
    * Venus and Moon (warm caring feelings)
    * Venus and Mercury (conversations are
    more agreeable)
    * Venus and Jupiter (Fun, Fun, Fun, Plus
    good money aspect )
    * Venus and Sun (Love and appreciation of that person)
    * Venus and Ascendant/Descendant (Attracted to the physicality of the person)
    * Venus and Chiron (Very positive for
    relationships)
    * Venus and Saturn (long term
    relationship)
    * Venus and Uranus (exciting,
    spontaneous
    * Venus and Neptune (dreamy
    romanticism)
    * Venus and Pluto (intense love
    feelings)
    * Mars and Ascendant/Descendant
    * Mars and Jupiter (Adds a lot of energy in
    whatever you choose to pursue)
    * Mars and Chiron (Fertile aspect !)
    * Jupiter and Chiron (fortunate and blessed
    union)
    * Jupiter and Sun (Rose colored glasses -
    benefactor)
    * Jupiter and Mercury (common spiritual
    beliefs)
    * Jupiter and Ascendant (beneficial )
    * Saturn and Moon (stability,
    commitment)
    * Saturn and Ascendant (adds stability and security)
    * Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and any point in the chart is fine.

The most important harmonious aspects to look for in a long term relationship and synastry compatibility are the Sun and Moon aspects, Venus to Mars/Sun/Ascendant, and Chiron to Venus/Sun/Moon/ Jupiter, and Neptune. So look for these first.

Now the reason some of the conjunct aspects are good "sometimes" is because it depends on the individual. With Saturn, it delays, teaches and restricts - but it can also be a source of dependability and stability. If you are someone who needs a lot of freedom in your relationship and doesn't like to be depended on too much, this aspect can feel too restrictive. On the other hand if you are looking for a companion who can be bring much needed stability to your emotions (moon), self expression (sun), or
to a relationship (Ascendant/descendant) you might prefer this aspect.

Neptune on the other hand can be quite dreamy - to a fault. Disillusionment and victimhood could be brought out in a relationship with this aspect (not to mention substance abuse). With Uranus, a conjunction could indicate many separations (say your partner was a pilot or traveled a lot on business this wouldn't be so bad) however, if you were someone who preferred a 9 to 5 partner, this could cause many problems. And then there's Pluto well, intensity is good for some things and not always good for others.....

Next we'll look at the aspects in synastry compatibility to LOOK OUT FOR ! YIKES

Look for squares, oppositions, and sometimes the conjunct between you and your partner's planets, especially between the outer planets (saturn, neptune, uranus, and pluto) to your personal planets (sun, moon, mercury, venus, mars). The missing planet, Jupiter, is a mixed bag. At a square or opposite aspect it more or less adds arrogance, exaggeration, laziness, and overdoing. Nothing too bad, but could add an annoying element to the mix.

The most challenging (to say the least) aspects to look for are from Saturn to Venus, Moon, and Chiron. It is called the "heartbreak aspect" in some astrology books. So look out for these ! The next most difficult are from Uranus because of the reversal or separation effect. Pluto to your personal planets can be bring you manipulation/possessiveness/jealousy/over-controlling. And Neptune again, can lead you down the road to dissolution and disillusions.

So as you can see squares and oppositions mostly denote a problem area in a relationship. However, it can also have a stimulating affect as well. You must look to your synastry combinations to see how your squares and oppositions are working in your relationships.

Next look at the midpoint between the Sun and Moon. Take your sun/moon midpoint and check to see if the other person's Sun or Moon makes a Hard aspect to it, such as; conjunct, square, opposition, sesquiquadrate, semi-square within 8 degrees. Then check his/hers to yours. Combine the two midpoints, to get your combined midpoint, and check both sets of moons/suns to this point. This adds energy to the union to make it "official" so to speak - Not that it always ends in marriage, but there is rarely a couple out there that doesn't have some connection here. You can even check the

progressed charts. Progressed sun by forward or converse progression can make this aspect too, especially when the couple meets or when they become more committed.

Now, in assessing your synastry, if you were looking for "Mr. Right, or Ms. Right" and it's important to have sparks in your relationship look for harmonious aspects involving venus with mars, pluto, and uranus and Mars to jupiter, and ascendant. If you are looking for a good companion and the sparks are not so important look for venus and moon, venus, saturn, sun, and ascendant. If you want a relationship that isn't too predictable look for harmonious aspects with uranus. If, however, you love stability, longevity and security look to harmonious aspects with saturn.

Now remember, even the most romantic couples, even the couples' whose marriages have become golden, and even cinderella and prince charming, had some challenging aspects in their synastry compatibility. However, it makes for a more enjoyable relationship the more harmonious aspects you have. And you have to decide what's important to you in a relationship, what you can overcome, and what you can put up with !

    Ascendant - Rising Signs

    Aries Rising

Those with Aries approach life impulsively, independently and with enormous mental and physical stamina. This person doesn’t worry about limitations and seeks to be first and best in new situations and walk in with a spirit of competition. An Aries Ascendant comes across as enthusiastic and may have a habit of rushing into the environment without thinking. Fiery ascendants are more robust and energetic than other rising signs. Aries, in particular, doesn‘t like to wait around to get things done. Aries on this point of the natal chart is exciting to be around and you can rely on them to be straightforward and direct.

Urgency and immediacy prevail as the most obvious characteristics of this ascendant. The individual often looks as if they are in a hurry to be somewhere, and these people like to feel as if they are in charge of life. The unconscious half of Aries seeks partnership and to relax in a peaceful environment. However, Aries rising likes to distinguish themselves from the pack, and are oriented towards activities that help to define the Self through a singular identity.

This person likes to initiate situations and move onto the next challenge. Spontaneously moving to the front, Aires needs to act and physically do something that sets them apart. The ruling planet of the Aries Ascendant is MARS and its sign and house position will describe how the individual can best direct their energetic, assertive and ambitious personality.

    Taurus Rising

Those with Taurus rising approach life with caution, realism and patience. This person is usually peaceable and slow to anger and hates to be hurried by others. Taurus rising is motivated by material concerns and are fond of luxury, nice clothes and physical pleasures. These people like tactile affection and are highly attuned on a sensual level.

Taurus is the first of the earth signs and the first of the fixed signs. The orientation is towards bringing sustained results and cultivating an artistic appreciation of life. Those born with the bull rising take their time and stays calm, energy is used resourcefully. Taurus has a taste for things that last and can be traditional in love, seeking a sense of substance. The person can be grounded and practical and even a bit of a naturalist. There is also a liking for the simple life and they hate when things get over-complicated. Those with Taurus rising may even have a touch of stubbornness in the way they move forward and won’t be pushed into anything. However, they are very dependable types and earth signs are always reliable to have around.

The environment is perceived as a place of beauty and pleasure, provided the outer world is secure and stable. The unconscious side of the personality houses a more deeper and complex nature and there is a longing to immerse themselves into unknown watery depths. However, this experience usually comes from others. Relationships may be overly-possessive, but deeply committed partnerships are what they value. Permanence is important and Taurus favours pleasure and peace over conflict.

The ruling planet is VENUS and the sign and house position of this planet will further reveal how they express their artistic, sensual and practical nature.

    Gemini Rising

gemini rising two faces of woman
Those born with Gemini Rising approach life with great curiosity and versatility, with a desire to learn about everything. The sign likes to socialize, talk and is fun and witty. This individual can easily laugh one minute and switch to being serious when the topic of conversation changes. Gemini’s are the perpetual students of life, and can remain youthful in later years. Gemini Ascendants need constant feedback and as a broad a range of contacts as possible. This person can be easily bored and so needs to be in constantly stimulating environments.

Gemini is the first of the air and mutable signs and so are particularly interested in teaching, writing, reading, speaking and all other kinds of communication. Information is fun and the Twins move into life in a playful, light and humorous manner. Some may view them as cool, detached and difficult to pin down, but they are always interesting to have around. Full of clever facts and trivia, a party starter and conversationalist. Gemini ascendants readily adapt to the social environment, so much so that when moving around the room chit-chatting often appear two-faced.

This person doesn’t enter heavy emotional involvement easy and would rather keep things light-hearted and be in touch with what’s happening on the surface and not overly-involved. Gemini is famous for experiencing duality and many have two jobs, names, identities or phone-numbers. However, Gemini’s do love making connections between one thing and another. Those with Gemini rising have a friendly manner and need people around who are as interesting and as knowledgeable as them. The unconscious side of the personality longs to expand understanding and experience meaning in life. Sagittarius on the Descendant governs their relationships, so others help them to expand their worldview.

Gemini Rising is ruled by MERCURY and the sign and house Mercury is placed will further explain how this individual communicates and relays information.

    Cancer Rising

A person with Cancer rising approaches life with sensitivity and wears its feelings on its sleeves and is not adverse to the odd sentimental moment. One of the main features of Cancer is its changeable moods and protection of feelings under a layer of defensiveness.  This person will not venture forth until the environment is perceived to be safe, and being so highly emotional and responsive to the atmosphere, self-preservation is a big thing. The impact of the environment always affects them personally, beneath the emotionalism the unconscious side of them longs to be self-sufficient. Cancer tends to act indirectly and in a sideways fashion when confronted with new situations, and needing to feel safe and secure, it is likely that movement is subtle and action is not taken until there is an assurance of security. The individual approaches others in a sympathetic way and tends to ‘feel’ their way around life. The Moon’s moods are variable and so their reactions to the environment changes depending on the level of vulnerability and protection that is sensed.

Those with important points in Cancer retain experiences and naturally hold on to loved ones and familiar objects for a sense of belonging. The individual doesn’t ’rush into’ unfamiliar territory that may make them feel uncomfortable and upset. The rising sign symbolises what is projected from the personality, and  insecurity, moodiness and defensiveness are Cancerian traits that may be expressed immediately. Often this changeful, complex nature is misunderstood and eludes simple definition. It is also likely that this person will initiate feelings first and is protective of others, responding to their needs first. The Moon rules over the mother in the natal chart and so a caring and motherly type persona, and emotional available aura is another expression of Cancer's feeling response towards the environment. There is often a very personal outlook and the type may exude softness and a have a dreamy sentimental appearance and approach to life that can make them react negatively to cold environments. The crab usually hides and so this individual may appear to be hard and impenetrable on the outside, but vulnerable and soft on the inside. Similarly, they are mistrustful of new contacts and experiences and may posses a fearful outlook, where everything is viewed as potentially threatening.

    Leo Rising

A person with Leo rising usually presents a confident and sunny exterior, but how they feel on the inside is another matter altogether. Astrologers describe the Ascendant as the “door to the house”, and astrologer Sue Tompkins uses this analogy to describe the rising sign.

“The Ascendant is the lens through which we view the world and through which the world views us. Imagine you are wearing spectacle with blue-tinted glass, so as you look out on to the world everything will appear to have a blue tint. People looking at you will see you with a blue tint, too. Although you may not be aware of it, other people will be viewing the same world but they will see things differently because they are viewing it through differently coloured glass”.

Those with Leo Rising take pride in their appearance, and project an image of significance and self-importance. Significant points in Leo often have great energy and the individual usually expresses generosity, leadership qualities, courage and creativity. The individual proudly projects himself onto others and many have something distinguishing about their appearance, usually a rich crop of hair is something that stands out. An innate sense of destiny is keenly felt, and the need to make an impact on the environment through personal style and originality is ever-present. The sign projects a dignified manner and regal air, but is vulnerable to rejection and criticism, and takes it rather subjectively. The king of beasts is too proud to show their wounded side in public.

Leo rising people have charisma and personal power, but have a tendency to overlook others at times. The world is perceived as a stage on which everybody else is revolving around them, and experiences are interpreted with a colourful imagination. The type is attracted to theatrical and dramatic circumstances or events. The strength of their personal power is sometimes dominating and overwhelming, but the chart is filtered through the light of creative expression.

Leo symbolizes those things that awaken the childlike spirit and open the heart, so activities such as art, literature, romance, music and drama are all enjoyed. A Leo Rising unable to shine may find admiration and applause for his special abilities in these type of fields. Life can get dull without any room for creative uniqueness, and this person is developing a powerful aura, and strong sense of self without being too over-bearing, self-aggrandising and overly commanding. Leo usually stands out from the crowd and possesses personality and presence. A need to be special can give way to a fear of being unnoticed and viewed as merely one amongst a mass of people.

    Virgo Rising

Those with Virgo Rising approach life with a strong need to bring order to the external environment. Well mannered and polite, this individual may be perceived as nervous and situations are dealt with cautiously, and only acting when there is sufficient knowledge of a situation. The analyst is ever-present in first meetings and Virgo can juggle several thousand details around at once, and sort out any mess you care to mention. Sometimes they don’t participate much verbally and may enter a certain situation with the intent to analyse and critique what is happening. Virgo rising usually projects sensitivity and shyness and unless they have the back-up of intellectual and professional skills it may be difficult for them to assert themselves in the right manner. Still, the unconscious side of the personality longs to let go and let feelings flow after a long hard day of work.

This person is discriminate and views life through reason using an intellectual framework. The preferred mode of expression is by utilizing a systematic way of working, sorting, sifting and editing. Unless something is done correctly and the right way, the individual is often far too self-critical. Virgo risings approach others with a keen sense of service and come across as being kind, helpful and useful. Being modest in demeanour these people seek to improve situations, and develop a positively efficient personality. Virgo Risings tend to comment on what’s flawed, unworkable, ’needs seeing to’ and fixed. In fact, they like to sort things out and see to all those little details and are developing better working practices.

Often the first response to a situation is to analyse and break it down, and if there is a problem, Virgo seeks to find the solution. Significant points in this sign have a fluid and flexible approach. Driven to practice and hone its skills, and sometimes through working in private and isolation, often this critical and orderly outlook, masks a fear of chaos and confusion.

    Libra Rising

Any person with Libra rising approaches life with idealism, and a desire to cooperate in harmonious interchange with others. Significant points in Libra look for a beautiful world of civil and balanced behaviour. The innate ability is to initiate through reasoning, communication, socializing and diplomatic skills. Libra rising is highly sensitized to the views and judgments of others and sometimes real feelings are concealed to defend against creating a disharmonious atmosphere. The type is always trying to be fair and they have an undeniable social and political outlook. This person is trying to conform to a world of opposites and maintain a sense of equilibrium.

The type is usually graceful in nature and they are sensitive to colour, good taste, love and design. Libra’s view the world aesthetically and the sign rules the principle of attraction as well as the principle of harmony. Partnerships of all kinds are usually important and Libra rising is always looking for the ideal relationship. Everything is approached in an agreeable and sociable way, and having a partner in life is more important than any other rising sign. This person is willing to bend over backwards for a pleasant environment. Typically they take longer to evaluate a situation

The world can be perceived as a place of constant compomises and adjustments to fit in and harmonize. Sometimes there a great deal of indecision, because they are so concerned with making a fair decision. However, the person presents an intellectual, charming and refined manner. Sometimes Librian’s project a cool, aloof and distant manner, although even this side of her can be highly attractive. Libra has the desire to please-to be all things to all men and offensive to none.

    Scorpio Rising

The Ascendant is the first point on the chart wheel and forms the cusp of the first house. It represents the face a person presents to the world, and it can act like a mask that hides other parts of the personality. The Ascendant forms one of three most important chart points in natal astrology. A Scorpio Ascendant is the most mysterious, intriguing, secretive and magnetic of all the rising signs. This person has a persona that probes intensely and at the same time guards and fiercely protects their own natures. Scorpio is ruled by Mars and Pluto, the gods of war and death. This is the sign of sex, death and change. Scorpio approaches the world with great passion, depth and intensity, and they are not content to skim the experience of life. People tend to react strongly towards them, and find their penetrating gaze and powerful magnetism intriguing, rather like delving into a good mystery novel, or mistrust and approach the Scorpio warily, questioning their deeper motives.

Scorpio will never be an open book or overtly obvious, they tend to be low key on first meeting. This person is self-controlled and is likely to hold back, wait and watch intently, it also likely that some of these people come across as intimidating. Scorpion’s experience strong feelings of paranoia, similarly, their powerful sense of intuition senses the undercurrents and ulterior motives in any social situation and so they always stay on guard. The whole personality is filtered through the sign of regeneration and so major themes in this person’s life often involve continual re-birthing and sweeping changes. Scorpio is a fixed sign and so they tend to stay in one mode for years and then completely transform into something else. The sign feels secure when they can maintain control. Coupled with this, the identity is based on power and social influence, but they also have the ability to become quite unnoticeable, yet still emanate that intense atmosphere.

The Ascendant and First House is often reinforced at birth and in childhood, and they may describe circumstances surrounding the actual birth, including who was there and was sort of environment greeted us at birth. These early experiences colour our perception of the immediate environment. According to A.T Mann, the Ascendant registers at the moment you take your first breath and parallels the development of your personality as a process.

“The Zodiac sign on your Ascendant symbolizes this synchronistic relationship. The range of interpretations describes personalities derived from the nature of the birth environment. Scorpio - Disharmonious; humid; hot-headed; cautious; industrious; passionate; seperative; violent; surgical; impulsive; dangerous; brutal; forceful; surviving; surgeons and surgery; Caesareans; forceps; tragic events; endurance.” A.T Mann, The Divine Life, Astrology and Reincarnation

    Sagittarius Rising

Those born with Sagittarius rising approach life with a keen sense of intuition, optimism, and possess a profound awareness of all future possibilities. This person is friendly and enjoys philosophizing and conversing with others in an intelligent and humorous manner. Physically and mentally restless, those with Sagittarius on the Ascendant need to roam free and keep their options open. With a love of travelling and higher learning they always make interesting companions, but may become impatient if the limits of reality delay further growth. The breadth and scope of their vision is eternal, and they have a spontaneous and uplifting outlook on life.

The world is perceived as a place full of potential, meaning, and possibilities. The “Don’t Fence me in” philosophy of life, applies to those born with such far-sighted vision as Sagittarius. But sometimes Sagittarius’ aims change before fulfilment, and they can follow many different avenues through-out the course of their lives. There is a fear of missing out on other opportunities to expand and experience life’s goodness. Such an outgoing and adventurous outlook, helps them to gain more from their involvements with others, and this approach is liable to attract people who share the same wit and intelligence. However, it is far more likely to be in relationships with those who look at the facts and finer nuances of a situation, before jumping in too quickly. The unconscious side of Sagittarius has a need to fit all those details into the bigger picture, and communicate their vision in specific understandable terms to others.

Sagittarius is outspoken, candid and they will always greet you with warmth and a big smile. The sign is open, honest and frank, and values honesty above all else. Narrow-mindedness, pettiness and general meanness and doubt are not part of their innate values and overall response to people. Those with important points in Sagittarius have an eagerness to embrace life and strive towards the truth of any situation, feeling a sense of joy and fulfilment in all of their endeavours.

     Capricorn Rising

Those with a Capricorn Ascendant are developing a sense of order and usefulness. This person’s approach to life is generally industrious, responsible and serious. The sign of Capricorn has an inhibiting quality to the personality, and so they may come across as calculating, defensive cold and aloof. On the other hand, the individual may present a lack of confidence and most have learned to wear a tough face, and one that is wise to lessons of endurance, survival and self-mastery. Ordinarily, they come across as hard-working, solid and dependable people, even if the rest of the personality is more fiery and emotional there is a no-nonsense and deeply practical approach to new social situations. Capricorn Rising often ‘appears’ to be well organized, disciplined and ambitious. Typically the type are good managers and have learned from an early age to carry responsibility, and work hard to earn respect. All those born with significant points in Capricorn, however, do need to overcome their fears of failure. The sign is ruled by task-master Saturn and often these lessons are learned the hard way.

However, If Capricorn lessons are well developed in the personality, they enter new situations with a self-sufficient and authoritative attitude, but this has usually come with time and learning from an early age how to survive on their own. Capricorns often need public approval, and they tend to pit themselves against insurmountable challenges in order to prove their strength and perseverance, again and again. Many textbooks refer to Scorpio and Capricorn ascendants as being the most difficult, but I would say that they are also the most powerful and ambitious. With Capricorn there is a built-in sense of duty and obligation and great need for social security. Often the individual builds a career or has a responsible role in society. The axis of Cancer and Capricorn also represents family obligations and so they may have a powerful position as head of the clan. Earth Ascendants come across as practical, realistic and down to earth. Typically the type may find it difficult to let their vulnerable side show, and many people may not see the softer side behind their wall of protection.

The Capricorn rising individual is developing hard self-discipline, consistency and dependability. Usually the type likes to plan things ahead of time, and can be a wet-blanket in the company of others, they never jump into anything enthusiastically and often give off the impression that everything is under control, even if this is not the case. Generally speaking, they approach life with a shrewdness and realism, and they are both highly controlled and controlling and tend to be suspicious of anything that appears too easy. The world is often perceived as a hard place where things have to be earned through effort.

    Aquarius Rising

    aquarius rising, woman water bearer
Those born with Aquarius rising approach life with strongly held ideals of how the world should be. Often friendly with a tolerant outlook, they consider themselves to be fair-minded, and respectful of the views of others. The individual works best when involved with groups of like-minded people, and Aquarius has a genuine talent for ingenuity and creativity. As a social sign they are interested in making contributions that benefits humanity in some way and also progresses intellectual understanding. Sometimes those with Aquarius on the Ascendant come off as cold and detached in manner, but it’s because they are so involved with observing social situations, behaviours, attempting to understand the nature of laws and patterns. The sign has the least toleration for selfish pursuits, and would rather keep a situation cool and intellectual.

Aquarius on the ascendant holds impartial, logical and intuitive assessments of life, and would be embarrassed if viewed as too showy and self-important. Therefore, partners and close friends may be viewed as more dramatic and self-centred. Aquarius needs to be different and can also converse with a variety of different people. Everybody is the same underneath. Unconsciously people are drawn towards them, who are often creative individuals, intent on developing their own uniqueness. Aquarius’ shadow side seeks to develop a sense of his own destiny and creativity, so that they have something truly unique to offer mankind.

Those with important points in Aquarius value freedom, forward thinking, and progressive attitudes to life. Aquarius is the third of the air signs and the forth of the fixed signs, and can be found in the areas of science, astrology, research, communicating, and social networks. Circulating ideas, organizing, and looking towards the future are all important attributes, and you will find the water bearer looking for ways to benefit the lives of human beings.

    Pisces Rising

A person with Pisces rising has an ever-shifting and changeable outlook; it can be confusing for others to really see this individual. Pisces is associated with ‘multiple selves’ and they tend to adapt to the environment and absorb the emotional undercurrents in social situations. Those with significant points in Pisces are intangible, indefinable and confusing, they represent the symbol of the two fish swimming in opposite directions exemplifying this dichotomy. Pisces is the third of the water signs and fourth of the mutable signs. This describes the Pisceans boundless nature. Pisces Rising approaches life with an instinctive sense of unity and a compassionate approach to all human emotional experiences. Usually sensitive in their approach they never take any definite action and are sometimes reluctant to define personal boundaries, and can be deliberately evasive and hard to figure out.

An emphasis in Pisces can represent a range of different selves, and they enjoy dipping into anything otherworldly, spiritual, healing and artistic. I have known several Pisces rising people who have a ‘sleepy look’ in their eyes, and sometimes they have a far away, sad and vulnerable appearance. Marilyn Monroe with Neptune Rising (Pisces ruler) powerfully exemplifies all these characteristics. In a television interview, Monroe said that she created a vision (illusion) of what others wanted her to be. The glamorous pin-up had the ability to slip in and out of character and emulate the fantasy and dreams of thousands, but the downside is that the public had little connection with who she really was. Neptune and Pisces rising also have the ability to stir the unconscious waters of everybody they meet, they present a natural screen for others’ projections.

Pisces rising mirrors the feelings of others, and the world is perceived as a place of mystery, interconnectedness, hidden motives and suffering. Pisces wants to merge with the oneness of all life and feel deeply connected to everything. Pisces energy can sweep us off our feet, put us on a pedestal and enchant us, but it can also leave us in the gutter. The energy of Pisces approaches the world with less discrimination, they are open and suggestible. Neptune blurs the lines of reality and is constantly shifting, changing and dissolving physical forms. The myriad of impressions they receive from their inner and outer environments are absorbed and translated into sound, pictures or words.

    Sun and Moon

Part 1: How does your sun touch your moon? They speak about your relationships.
    ...

How the sun(man) and the moon(woman) in an individual's chart interact speaks about what is going on within that person. Often those with a relationship issue have their moon sign behind their sun. An example would be Sun in Pisces with a Moon in Aquarius.

When this occurs there will be a problem with relationships. If we use the sun sign as the first house, the moon lands in the solar twelfth house. The twelfth house is secrets and sorrows, also hidden matters. It is the house of the unconscious and subconscious. ( It also means a lot more but not relevant at this point).

Usually when a planet falls into the twelfth house, somehow the nature of how this planet impacts that person is not clear, especially to that person. For instance, mars is anger. I had a woman who had a lot of anger but did not see it. You could hear it in her voice. It manifested dealing with her husband and other people. I tried to explain it to her, and she screamed that she had no anger or hostility. Of course.

Needless to say it can be hard to tell the person in question about an unknown issue. The good news is when similar events or people keep coming to a person, then they have a better chance of seeing the issue.

When the sun is in the first, the moon is in the twelfth house or the moon sign is behind the sun sign...the person is not in contact usually with their feelings. There can be tremendous acting out. The intent of the sun action gets smacked by the hidden moon issues as well.

If a person is a woman, and she has her sun in Pisces. She is likely to choose a man who is emotional, perhaps addictive, maybe needy. Remember, as an aside the Pisces fish swims in two directions. If she is evolved or the sun and moon are well placed in the chart, she might choose a very spiritual, devoted loving man. That is not the case with a Pisces sun-Moon in Aquarius combo.

With the Moon(her) in the sign behind the Sun, in Aquarius as in the example, the woman would be intrinsically independent, be a great friend, but could not tolerate a needy or clingy man. Here is the problem. Also she might not really be conscious of her emotional nature and blame the guy for the issues. "He was so co-dependent". " I could not breath, he was so needy". "I was trying to help him, I thought he would become more independent."

In a relationship context, the man she would choose and want..would not work with her Aquarius nature. Thus, there would be an inevitable blowout, over and over.

This schism would need processing in order to get past that problem. Her attraction would not change and her needs would not either, but her tolerance and acceptance of not only the chosen man but of her self would. Thus making relating easier. She would grow. She would learn to relate within her parameters.

A similar situation sets up with the Moon in a sign and the sun in the sign behind it. Example: a Moon in Pisces and an Aquarius sun.

When the moon is in the twelfth house of a natal chart, it does cause also emotional issues to be resolved. That would be Pisces rising for instance and an Aquarius Moon. I often have seen that the people with set-ups like this refuse to process yet they badly want a relationship. Sadly they could not grasp their complete emotional nature to relate, it was never their problem.

If you are a man and have a combo as mentioned above, it would also be debilitating to relating. The woman you would choose would not work with the man you are.

If you have a set up as described and would like to post a comment, I would be pleased to discuss it with you here.

I will be doing other difficult sun and moon interactions in a chart in the next few blogs. Often an astrologer can tell the whole relationship history and possibilities just from a natal chart's two luminaries or planets.

Examples of this sun/moon combo would be..

    Aries sun/ Moon in Pisces
    Taurus sun/Moon in Aries
    Gemini sun/Moon in Taurus
    Cancer sun/Moon in Gemini
    Leo sun/Moon in Cancer
    Virgo sun/Moon in Leo
    Libra sun/ Moon in Virgo
    Scorpio sun/Moon in Libra
    Sagittarius sun/Moon in Scorpio
    Capricorn sun/Moon in Sagittarius
    Aquarius sun/ Moon in Capricorn
    Pisces sun/Moon in Aquarius

Part 2: Your sun and moon reveals your relationship issues. Full Moon babies

The Full Moon chart is alo a combo that speaks relationship issues. This combo looks like sun in one sign and the moon in the opposite sign. Let's say Sun in Aries-Moon in Libra is an example.

The sun is man in a woman's chart. It is the man in his chart. In a woman's chart the moon is her . In a man's chart, the woman he is attracted to is his moon sign.

An Aries type man is energetic, a pioneer, not particularly suave, one who goes after what he wants. he is impulsive and explosive at times. A Libra moon/ woman is sensitive, charming and delicate. She wants to be courted, and likes all the trim of dating. She weighs a lot back and forth, and probably is very far from impulsive. She wants a man who courts her, and always in marriage keeps the romance going. Yet with a Moon in Libra she draws the fiery, rough edged Aries. A problem? Often if not processed and understood.

Our fiery Aries sun man would draw a woman who would be Libra type with a Moon in Libra. He really would have difficulty slowing down to always indulge his sweetie. "There is so much to do?"-might be the thought." I don't have time for the trivial."

Many Full Moon babies can never get past square one and choose to stay single. Many also work it out, through acceptance of their own inner conflict and choosing a male with an appropriate chart to help them heal this fissure. A great match for a Full Moon is a New Moon baby. Sun and Moon in the same sign. They melt well together. There has to be a lot of mutual respect and a willingness to transform to make this work.

Just in case you don;t know your opposite sign ...here they are:
    Aries/Libra
    Taurus/Scorpio
    Gemini/ Sagittarius
    Cancer/Capricorn
    Aquarius/Leo
    Pisces" Virgo

Moon also is Mom and Sun is Dad. When they oppose each other in as they do in a Full Moon's babies chart, there is no real role model for relating adding to the difficulty. There is an issue of unity between the parents, and perhaps a divorce. So the poor Full moon baby boy or girl really also not only has his or her internal conflict but no satisfactory model to fall back on.

Part 3 : your sun and moon: what they reveal about relating

Another combination that spells trouble is the sun/moon square. That is when the sun and the moon are approximately 90 degrees apart.

Going back to the interpretation that Sun is man and Moon is woman, you can understand why the study of these two planets in an individual chart could reveal any heavy issues with relating.

The "square" is considered a tension aspect, and for the most part it plays out with an unconscious or subconscious element. For instance, one can say one thing yet actions speak another language. Most of us have known people like this if not related to them. For some people, receiving these mixed messages might be close to impossible to deal with, for others barely tolerable.

If you have a sun/moon square in your chart, it might be impossible for you to see the behavior. On the other hand, if several people who you have dated have pointing to saying one thing but doing another, you probably need to listen and internalize what you are hearing.Changing this behavior could be difficult but the first step will be becoming aware of it.

Another scenario with this combo is projecting this behavior out on others .

    Let's get to some examples.
If you are a Scorpio sun man with a Leo Moon, you tend to be secretive and not share, yet emotionally you choose women who are flamboyant...who just might be showy and talkative. That choice could only set you off...but that is part of an inner need, (the moon) to express itself.

If you are a woman, with a Cancer sun but an Aries moon...you come off as your Moon, direct and full of fire. That is all great and wonderful, until you choose a man which you will that fulfills your Cancer sun. A caring, sensitive man, who clams up if hurt. You can see the problem here. You could also promise to not hurt, but you might not be able to see how being you, the Aries Moon is hurting him.

These are only examples, but this dichotomy plays out in natal Sun/Moon squares.

Please keep in mind that a difficult natal sun/moon position does not mean you won't have a relationship of value. It simply means that there is some personal work to be done. Ask yourself: are you ready?

Part 4: The Sun and Moon, reflections on one's ability to relate

As an astrologer, nothing makes me happier than telling someone their chart reflects a strong ability to relate. However that does not necessarily mean at the point I tell then this, they are having an easy time relating--usually it is the opposite.

A sun moon trine in one's natal chart promises the ability. That would mean the sun and moon would be in the same element, fire, water, earth or air. Quickly go check your chart. Are you one of these fortunate people?

Another combination is a sun moon sextile. That would look like a pairing of harmonious elements. Water likes earth, but does not do well with air or fire. So water with earth and air with fire. This pairing once more needs to happen in your chart.

This person is also capable of an excellent relationship.

As sun is man in a woman's chart and moon is the woman in her chart (or sun is the man in a man's chart and moon is the woman in his chart)..the interaction between these two planets reveal a lot. For one, if transits, or solar arc progression hit either one of these luminaries one can be sure there is relationship activity in this person's life. The type of activity would be revealed by the planet touching the sun or moon and the angle.

I personally find a New Moon person quite skilled at relating. That is when the sun and moon are in the same sign. That position naturally denotes choosing someone a lot like oneself. Charisma and creativity emanate. It is important for the astrologer to note if the sun or moon leads, as rarely will they be exact. The other issue is an innate one whether acknowledged or not- both luminaries are in the same sign, thus presenting only one point of view. I find also New Moon people seem to need a relationship. They probably want to relate more than any other combination.

Life is not simple nor is relating, even with the above mentioned combos. Often the sun and moon are tempered by another planet conjuncting, probably the most powerful aspect.

Also one cannot escape one's belief system which comes from childhood, especially about how people relate. Whether we react or go along with what we were taught, there is still a base, This colors the situation as well.

You could have a perfect sun and moon combination, but you were taught to give-give-give , you might not have learned to receive-an equally important part of a relationship. etc etc. I am sure this discussion could go forever and would be interesting.

Over the years, I have seen people with like partnership skills will partner, therefore they have a lot to learn from each other. Even a "bad" relationship might be significant in one's growth,

Past astrology what makes couples work, from my observation is mutual respect. This trait translates easily into mutual acceptance, and ability to accept differences, appreciate them rather than change them.

The Natal Moon Phase Can Describe Your Love Life

The natal Moon Phase is based on the position of the Sun and the Moon, representing the male and female archetypal principles in your natal chart. The Moon always REFLECTS what the Sun INSTRUCTS.

You can delineate the Moon's position and the Sun's position separately but you will get the most out of it when blending the positions of these points (called "the lights"). They both belong to each other inseparably and should be treated as such.

The Sun-Moon combo influences your life substantially on every level and in many fields and ways. They also imprint your love life and that's what we are discussing here right now.

It's observed that the Moon phase (lunar phase) you were born under summarizes the core of your life. Psychological and humanistic astrologers have for long been delineating the Moon phases in this way (think of what the astrologers Dane Rudhyar and Michael Meyer have learned us).

While the delineations of these psychological and humanistic astrologers are highly appreciated, insightful and innovative, they often lack some practical and event-oriented background.

From our own experience, we know that the Moon phase in your natal chart has a more practical meaning too and gives information about the way your love life looks like or what kind of a love relationship you do need this life time.

Below, we delineate the different natal Moon phases (and go beyond the 4 or 8 common phases) related to your love life. Do know that the closer the aspect between the Sun and the Moon, the more it will bring the significations to the foreground.

    Sun conjunct Moon
You're never alone and there will always be someone with or standing behind you as a friend or a lover. In a male horoscope, you will almost always notice a female fan or follower. It may happen that you live with someone physically but act separately and do your own things. Your relationships often start instinctively and impulsively.

    Sun 30° Moon
Your relationship can be summarized as a teacher-pupil relationship in which one of both shares experiences with the other. One of the partners instructs the other who learns from it.

    Sun 60° Moon
This is a very communicative relationship with lots of talks and/or messages, calls etc. You both need a very sociable environment with lots of friends and associates. You need a partner to co-operate and communicate with others (in groups, in family etc.).

    Sun 90° Moon
The square is an aspect of action and work. You need a relationship to DO things. Most often the partners are absorbed in (their own) work and career interests. You do need excitement to get the relationship working. Boredom means the end of the relationship.

    Sun 120° Moon
This natal Moon phase brings mutual understanding and some complacency. You need a partner to spend some time together, relaxing or just having fun. You understand each other instinctively.

    Sun 150° Moon
This natal Moon phase has very Virgonean traits in which one of the partners is submissive (the servant) and the other is the boss/master. One of the partners will always have to invest more in the relationship to get it going than the other. This is not a relationship about equals which you can't stand.

    Sun 180° Moon
This natal Moon phase is related to irresistible attraction and passion. It's a very magnetic phase, drawing the partners together. The partners are "out in the open" and this relationship is a public one. Each partner works on his or her own though and you seek in the other what you cannot achieve alone. It's a very physical phase that may bring fulfillment of desires.

    Sun 210° Moon
This natal Moon phase needs intensity and passion. You need a partner who is completely different and who impresses you profoundly. Often, one of the partners is or becomes widowed. This can be a temperamental relationship.

    Sun 240 Moon
Your relationship is another kind of the teacher-pupil relationship in which one of the partners teaches and the other learns. However, in this mental phase there is more illumination and more inspiration with new (enlightening and impressive) ideas. You need a partner with insight.

    Sun 270° Moon
This square too is focused on action. It's a more forceful relationship though in which one of the partners is the boss/master and the other is the servant. You need a very organized relationship to get on well, with plenty of appointments and structural and even formal agreements.

    Sun 300° Moon
This relationship is known for the love for children. Most often, it will not be one's own children, but children of the other (your partner, step-children, adopted children etc...). Indeed, you need children in your relationship to feel well and fulfilled. Also, there is a lot of socializing too.

    Sun 330° Moon
In this natal Moon phase you will often need to sacrifice some of your desires or wishes that will not come true -- for the sake of your partner and/or relationship. This relationship is focused on admiration and one of the partners looks upon the other in a guru-like way.
